I am currently a 16 year old on Weber High's swim team. I started swimming competitively as a seventh grader, and I fell in love with the sport very quickly. My love for the sport has never stopped. Swimming makes me feel alive, and I am grateful of every second. The way I feel after a good hard practice is something I live for.
In the fall of 2012 I started swimming as a freshman at Weber High. I trained harder than ever and in the end the results were wonderful. I quickly became one of the best and most well rounded swimmer on my team. I placed 2nd in the 200 IM at my first Region meet, allowing me to swim at state in not only relays but in an individual event as well. I was the youngest person on my team to go to state that year from my team. My success continued into my Sophomore year. I again placed 2nd in the IM, but also placed 3rd in the 100 breaststroke with a school record breaking time of 1:12:16. My times in both these events got me into the top 24 in the state, allowing me to go back to state for a second time. I was once again the youngest on my team to attend the high school state swim meet. At state I placed in the top 16 in both my events. My goal for my junior year is to break the school's 200 IM record of 2:20:72. I know that with hard work and dedication I can accomplish this goal.
Swimming is very important to me, but in order to swim I work hard to keep my grades up. I have been able to accomplish a 3.7 GPA for the past 2 years of high school. I am dedicated to making sure I'm well rounded in my grades and in my swimming. I've had my struggles, but I never give up. I've also become certified as a lifeguard during the spring of 2014. I work at a local aquatic center as a lifeguard, and I am loving every minute of it. I plan to become a WSI or Water Safety Instructor next summer in order to be able to be certified to teach others how to swim.
In the little spare time I have, I love to read. Reading has always been fun for me, it's my way of relaxing after a hard workout. I also love to be with friends. My swimming friends are my family, and I couldn't imagine my life without them. I have friends and acquaintances all over the state that I've had the wonderful opportunity to meet, just because we all swim!
Swimming is my everything, and I am so grateful for it. Swimming has given me confidence in myself, something I didn't have much of before I began to swim. Swimming has given me so many opportunities to grow and learn as person. I wouldn't be who I am today if it weren't for the amazing sport that swimming is.
