I have always been a driven, goal-oriented individual. Whether I am in the pool, in the classroom or working. Unlike most high school kids, I stay busy during my summer breaks with multiple activities. In fact, the past 5 summers, I have created and hosted a week long kids' camp for neighborhood children. I have had as many as 65 kids per day that I was responsible for! In fact, it earned me a gold medal at Region FCCLA Competition in business development. Like in the pool, I have learned that success requires working harder than anyone else!
This hard work and determination is not just evident in my entrepreneurship, but has flowed over into my academic and athletic careers as well. I have realized that this innate hunger to improve and to not only reach, but surpass my goals is what makes me successful in the classroom and in the pool. I have been a team leader and captain on several teams growing up. As a freshman I began swimming for my high school team and also a USA Swimming Competitive Travel team (SUSA). I have qualified and placed in State every year in multiple events. My junior year I placed 3rd in the 100Y Breast and 6th in the 50Y Free--my goal is to be the State Champion in both events this year!
Whether I am competing at a regional meet, state meet, invitational or even practice, I give it my all. I am always setting PR's and working my hardest to beat them. The clock is my biggest competition, it doesn't matter who is in the pool with me. My personal slogan learned from my dad is "no regrets." This pushes me through every practice and every meet to give it my all no matter how tired or sore I may feel.
I definitely plan on swimming at the collegiate level. My dad went to Stanford on a football scholarship and I have seen how his experience and education has enabled our family to travel around the world and experience things that others could only dream of. Having these opportunities have made me realize the importance of an excellent education. I am interested in the health industry and know that it will take the same amount of hard work and determination that I apply to my swimming career to achieve my goal of becoming a pharmacist or physical therapist and a successful college career is the key. Also it will allow me to provide for myself and my future family. I would be elated to receive a scholarship to do what I love, to swim. I have an insatiable desire to compete in the pool and I look forward to every practice and every meet. It gives me such a sense of accomplishment to set goals and achieve them. My dream is to compete at the college level and experience the intensity of competition and the camaraderie with my teammates.
One could say I live my life by the poem "The Victor" by C.W. Longnecker. "...Life's battles don't always go to the stronger or faster man, but sooner or later the man who wins, is the man who thinks he can." I know I can!
