Personal Statement

My name is Sydney Crews. I am 6’1”, 155 lbs, 17 years old, a HS Senior, and was a 2012 State Qualifier in three events this year in Austin Texas. I am from Dallas Texas and have been swimming club swim since I was 4 years old. During elementary school, I joined the nationally ranked Metroplex Aquatics Club Swim Team. During 2008, I swam for City of Plano Swimmers (COPS) but due to transportation issues, returned to Metroplex Aquatics. I joined the Lovejoy Swim Team during middle school and have been on the varsity swim team since 9th grade. At the high school level, I am ranked the top swimmer in sprint events but also compete in distance. I have the privilege this year of being the 2012/2013 High School Swim Team Captain. Recently, I made a personal decision to change club teams and swim on the Senior Elite team under the direction of head coach Dan McDonough with Frisco Aquatics. I made the move after several discussions with Coach Dan. He believes a few simple modifications will improve my time and put me in position to qualify at Junior Nationals this year. I swim short and long course events. My times are listed in the attached bio. Short course times with an asterisk indicate my high school swim times at TISCA and various other district and regional meets in which I swam this past school year. My high school coach can verify all times. Aside from swimming, I have directed my passion toward veterinary medicine. When I entered high school, I signed up for the veterinary medicine track and spent many hours helping coordinate and stand up the newly established FFA organization. My leadership strengths are reflected from my participation as an FFA committee member through establishing the program within my high school and working as the reporter and team leader for Career and Leadership Development activities. Among many activities, I planned, negotiated, reserved housing and meal plans for FFA student attendance at the Veterinarian Medicine State Convention at Texas Tech University. By volunteering each summer at a local veterinarian clinic and stables, I continue to work towards my goal of becoming a veterinarian. My main desire is to attend a university that offers strong Animal Science/Business studies, preferably with a veterinarian medicine school but this is not an absolute necessary criterion as long as there is a partnering vet school associated with the university which I will ultimately attend for my undergraduate degree. To achieve this goal, my focus in college will be studies in Animal Science and Business. My hope is to attend a university where I can study animal science and business while still being able to swim competitively during my undergraduate college career. I would really like the opportunity to continue swimming competitively as I move on to college life. I believe I can make a significant impact by being part of a college swim team because of my diverse interactive participation. The most significant contributions I bring to my HS and club teams are strong team leadership, continual time improvement and my dedication to the sport. I continually challenge myself with swimming and enjoy having lots of fun too. I would very much like to be considered as a candidate for your swim team. Thank you for your time, Sydney Crews

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
