Hi, my name is Roman Barber and I am from Atlantic City, New Jersey. I started swimming at the age of 5 and have loved the sport ever since. I started competitively swimming at the age of 8 with the Atlantic City Aquatic Club, a USA club team. I continued my swimming all through middle school and learned the important skills of determination, personal goal settings as well as time management. As I continued my swimming career into high school and decided I was going to swim distance and breast stroke, after my Freshman year I dropped breast stroke and strictly focused on distance swimming. I am currently a junior and swim a 2.32.55 in the 200 meter freestyle and a 5.14.69 in the 400 meter freestyle, my times are continuing to improve. I am a dedicated swimmer who is also ready to make changes to improve my times and stroke as well as traveling the extra mile to ensure I am the best I can be. I am a team player in and out of the pool. I apply these same principles which have allowed me to excel in school, I am currently enrolled in all Advanced Placement and Honors course while maintaining a 3.59 GPA. I’m looking for a college that will prepare me for life after competitive swimming, but has a swim program that will allow me to cut every possible second from my race times. I am interested in a team that is hard working, close to one another, and provides an environment for growth.
As a coach, you will not find a harder working and ethical athlete. I want to be part of a program that strives for excellence, but also respects the individual members of the team and its principles.
