The most important part of swimming to me is being a part of a team. Many people believe that swimming is an individual sport, one where you have to rely only on oneself for success. From being on a state championship team and a committed club team, I have learned that the sport of swimming values teamwork more than any other sport I have come across. This was and continues to be illustrated by noticing that when I put my individual hard-work and accomplishments towards a group effort, great things are destined to happen. Furthermore, from swimming I have learned what true discipline, honesty, and responsibility look like. Swimming has continued to teach me that the work I put in is what I get out of it, something that I am overjoyed to have experienced at a young age. I was elected as a captain for my high school team for the upcoming 2016 fall season, where I hope to put all the lessons I have learned from swimming in to action not only for my team, but in all aspects of my life- family, academics, and athletics.
