My goal is to become not only a successful student in college, but to make my mark on campus. As a student-athlete, I aspire to become not only an integral part of a swim team, but also to grow as a leader. I want to share my time and talents with my peers and my community, as well as, making the best use of my college experience.
Swimming is my passion. I began swimming at the age of four and never stopped. I began to swim year-round at the age of five, excelling and dropping times each year. I have consistently participated in the Gwinnett County Swim League Championships, every year since the age of five. To date, I am the all-time top scoring swimmer on my summer team, the Spalding Corners Sharks. I have always represented the team in the A relays each year, consistently ranking top three in the county. In high school, I have qualified and competed in State as a finalist. Recently, I competed in the USA Senior State competition at Georgia Tech.
Following the high school swim seasons, I compete with the high school track team for the remainder of the season to further my dry land training. As a result, I have also lettered in track each year and have competed in the County meets in the 800 meter run.
Academically, I have only missed one day of school each year and my high school GPA is 3.611 for the last two and a half years, demonstrating my commitment to school and my academics. I have only taken Honors, AP or IB courses while in high school. I am involved in numerous organizations on campus, either as a leader or as a participate. I have been a member of the middle and high school Honors Band since 6th grade, over 6 1/2 years, and actively participate in band activities. I am scheduled to take the SAT and the ACT in the spring.
Involvement in my community is important to me, whether it be fundraising for Relay for Life, involvement in Student government, freshmen mentoring/tutoring or volunteer coaching for local swim teams. Last school year, I volunteered for over 120 hours for the Norcross Junior Blue Devils Swim club, the local middle school swim club, as assistant coach under Coach George Schlicker. I also volunteered with the Spalding Corners Sharks’ summer swim team, as a junior coach for three years to help six and under swimmers learn how to swim. As a result, I was hired this year by Coach Willie Hildebrand, to be an assistant coach on the team where I work with the 8 and under swimmers. In August of this year, I was honored to be asked to be the USA athlete representative of the newly organized USA swim team, NJBD, based out of West Gwinnett Aquatic Center. Prior to my working as an assistant coach, I worked as a life guard for Sweetwater pools over the summer school break.
