Preparation is key. As I plan for college I recall when I started speaking to classes of middle school students on “How to Succeed in High School” during the second half of my freshman year. For those students to overcome their fears and succeed in high school they needed more than just “a hope to do well”; “luck is the intersection of preparation and opportunity” was something I grew up hearing and I knew they needed to understand that as well. They also have to treat classmates and teachers with respect because character does matter. Much of what I passed on to those 7th and 8th graders is what I am telling myself today. I want a college experience where I continue to be a leader; academically, on campus, and in the pool.
I expect that as a member of your team I will have the benefit of a built in group of friends with similar character, drive and ambition. I certainly want to continue to improve individually but I will be part of and add to the success of the team. The 200 and 100 backstroke are my best individual events, but the team relays are the most rewarding. I believe I can achieve early success at the conference level and work towards higher levels of accomplishment.
In the classroom I will continue the work and discipline to achieve a high class ranking. At the end of my under-graduate studies I want to be in the position to pursue graduate work with a longer term goal of a professional level career. I have achieved advanced placement in areas of Math and Language, and will be considering an academic path that would prepare me for choices in engineering, physics or math.
Sincerely,
Audrey Miller
