For years, I’ve been told that I train as hard as I play. I think this is one of the nicest compliments a player can receive, and coaches keep telling me.
As a varsity team captain all three years in high school, and now, on my club team as well, I strive to lead by example. I have been very fortunate to have had outstanding coaches who encourage and reinforce this philosophy.
My effort and drive on the field is mirrored by how I conduct myself off of the field.
While I have a cumulative GPA of 3.35, I earned a 3.9 last semester, and over a 3.7 in the last quarter of last year. I have taken some honors courses, and most of my class choices have been geared toward a career in health care or another related medical field of study. Classes I look forward to this coming year include:
Communicating With the Deaf
Medical Terminology
Continuing my Spanish studies
And “Leaders”, a program that works with the developmentally and cognitively challenged students at our school and in our community. I feel uniquely qualified for this as I have a younger brother with severe autism. I am proud to have been selected to this program, as I needed to be recommended by teachers, coaches, and members from the community, such as my brother’s therapists. I look forward to both the challenges and rewards this program will offer.
I am also becoming more involved in my church, and out-reach programs in my community.
Community service I have performed for my school, my church, and my club soccer teams include ringing bells for the Salvation Army, assisting the elderly with fall clean-up of their yards, lead coach for the Hortonville Youth Soccer Program, and the city of Oshkosh Fire Department annual Christmas Food and Toy Drive, where my Dad is a firefighter.
