Personal Statement

I am currently a starting forward for Amery High School in Amery, Wisconsin. I started every game my freshman and sophomore year and also made Second Team All-Conference my sophomore year. I started playing recreational soccer when I was 5 years old for Blaine Soccer Club. At the age of 8, I joined their traveling league, where I made the top team. I played on this team for 3 years and then moved to Maplewood, Minnesota. Due to the fact that they did not have a soccer league I could play for, I started playing soccer for Cottage Grove which was a nearby city. There I played soccer on their top team for 2 years. Each year we played in the state tournament, but never won state. We came close though! After my second year playing for them, I moved once more to Amery, Wisconsin. This was a huge change for me because I went from playing soccer all year round to only playing in the spring. I kept with it though, because I couldn't imagine me without it. I figured it was better to have at least one season than not have it at all. So my first year in Amery, I played for the Amery Boys Xtreme Team. I was the only girl, but that didn't bother me any. This season of soccer was by far the most memorable. Playing with the boys was an amazing experience and I honestly think it helped make me a better athlete. I learned how to play more aggressive and how to play smarter. I also had to learn how to play faster, because as much as I hate to admit it, boys play at a quicker speed than girls do. I pushed myself to be as good as them and by the end of the season, I was one of the top scorers. Then came high school. I'll be honest, I was a little upset I couldn't play with the boys, but once the season of my freshman year started, the girls on my team became my family. As a freshman, I started off playing as a left mid-fielder. By the second game, I was moved to forward. I've played this position ever since. I was the second leading scorer with 9 goals that season. My sophomore year, we lost a lot of our good players due to them graduating. Because of this, we only had 8 returners, basically making us a whole new team. We didn't have the best season, but by the end, we learned how to work together. I was top scorer that season with 20 goals. I was told that I would have made First Team All-Conference if my team would have had a better season. I didn't care though. I was proud to have gotten anything at all. It isn't about getting awards and making a name for yourself, it's about being a team and getting stuff done. I couldn't have done anything without my girls. You win as a team, you lose as a team, and you grow as a team. So I took my Second Team All-Conference certificate with pride. I cannot express how excited I am for my upcoming season this spring. If only we could just skip winter!

I am looking for a school where I can major in economics and possibly minor in art. I would like to stay in the mid-west so I can be close to home, but otherwise any college could be the college for me, as long as I get to do what I love; play soccer.
