Personal Statement

My name is Dana Curtis, I attended Calallen High School my freshman and half of my sophomore year. I transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida for one semester, and now I have returned to Calallen High School where I will be graduating from in 2018. I currently play club soccer in Corpus Christi, Texas. I play for my premier team, Great Western Soccer League U18 Warcats, and I am trained by Giraldo Elite Futbol (giraldoelitefutbol.com). When not on the pitch, I also run varsity track for Calallen High School.

I am a consistent A/B student in GT/Pre-AP and AP courses. Though I am still exploring options for long-term career plans, I have set myself high goals to earn my college education while playing on a top level collegiate squad, make national soccer teams, and play in the world cup. I fully recognize the importance of pushing myself academically in order to achieve my long term goals.

As a select club player I typically play forward and rotate comfortably left or right as winger as well. Depending on the situation, I have also shifted to an attacking mid-field role. During my initial tryout with the Texas Olympic Development Program (ODP) I made the State and Regional Camps (2014 and 2015). While training at the Regional ODP camp I enjoyed playing time as an outside back.

My club team has won state titles at Super 2 (2013) and recently at D-1 (Spring 2015). My 2015 season was highlighted by leading my team in scoring (9 goals/4 assists in the 4 game SCL Premier playoff series). My training with GEF focuses on technical skill and possession style soccer. I work hard to lead by example on and off the field. I am able to remain calm during stressful situations and purposefully encourage my teammates before, during, and after the game with consistently positive leadership.

My team and personal training with GEF has helped me develop strong soccer skills. Physically, speed and quickness are very strong additional assets. Off the pitch, I have won several district track & field championships at distances ranging from 100m to 400m. On the pitch, my speed allows me the ability to easily beat defenders in 1 vs. 1 situations, and I frequently out pace defenders onto through balls or hard long balls. Defensively, I am difficult to beat due to my ability to recover and close space. The leading scorer on my team, I find ways to score goals and have been called a "Goal Poacher" by my coaches.

In everything I do, I give 100% with no exception. I believe that I would prove a strong addition to any college team because I am a well-rounded technical player with excellent physical ability and competitive spirit. I also have the academic/leadership qualities, the desire and the coach-ability to make me a valuable addition to your soccer program.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
