Hello, my name is Sarah Skarke and right now as a junior in high school I start varsity soccer for Canyon High. I am 5'6", weigh 140lbs, and am 17 years old. Soccer is one of my passions and I play it all the time, whether it be for competion or just with my friends. My dominant position is defense and I have played this position since 8th grade in club and since my freshman year in high school ball. On my team, I am known for my speed, long throw ins (average throw: 25 yds), aggression, and the mindset that I will not be beaten or give up. Last year (2011) I received the Battleing Eagle award (which is basically an award for hardworking Canyon Eagle) and this year I made 1st Team All Distirct and received The Defensive Player of the Year award . I am currently the fastest on my high school team and strongest in the weight room (we lift 3 days a week, all year for injury prevention). I am one of the leaders because of my hard work and I try to lead by example because of this, I have been a captain for my high school team as a junior.
For a long time now I have wanted to play college ball if possible. I have a family of six with one working parent and the other out of a job in agriculture because of climate problems, so trying my best to achieve a scholarship in athletics, academics or both has been greatly encouraged. On the academic side I am in the top ten of my class, ranking 7 out of 300 (which I hope to improve by the end of this year).
I don't have many particulars on the kind of college I would like to go to. In or out of state is fine with me so geographic locations aren't an issue. Any size is also fine, although, I prefer it not to be HUGE. I would really like to go to a Christian school more than anything, though.
As of now, my thoughts have been directing me more towards a future in the medical field. What most appeals to me is being a RN, Nurse Practitioner, traveling nurse (nursing in general) or maybe something in the surgical area. Actually, I'm almost positive it will probably be one of those.
My athletic goals for college are to be the best I can be on the field, improve in my skill in anyway I can, play for a successful team, and be the player God has made me to be. I thank you, whoever may be reading this, for taking the time to consider me as a possible recruit for your college. God bless.
~Sarah~
