I started playing soccer when I was 8 years old. After my first time on the pitch I knew I had to continue to play this game. It was in my blood. I loved the sport but at first I wasn't a natural or it didn't appear so. Many of the other girls had been playing since they were five. I did not let that stop me. I pushed myself and practiced every chance I could. I played any position my coaches would play me so I could have the opportunity to have more field time and to acquire more skills and improve myself. Immediately after the parks and recreation season was over, I was asked to join a traveling soccer team called OBX Storm. I have had many wonderful experiences with OBX Storm and had the chance to work with many different experienced coaches. Their different philosophies allowed me many opportunities to expand my learning of the sport. I have continued to play soccer year around throughout Middle School, OBX Storm, and with the Outer Banks Youth Soccer Association (OBYSA). In the summer of 2010, I attended soccer camp at North Carolina State University. I had the opportunity to train with coaches from across the state and with players that were on the N.C. State team. The highlight of the camp was when I was picked to play on the team against the N.C. State College players. I was only 13 years old in a mix of 13-18 year olds playing against college players. It was an incredible experience. In 2010, I tried out for the North Carolina Olympic Development Program. It was an approximate six month tryout, in June my name was still on the list and I made the team as an alternate. Some would have been disappointed, but I was proud of myself. I stepped out of my comfort zone, traveled to an area where I didn't know anyone and faced a challenge of the unknown and came out as part of a team. I am trying out for the North Carolina Olympic Development Program this year 2014. I was invited to go play in Georgia on January 4-5.
After high school I would like to attend college and be part of a soccer team. It would be a wonderful opportunity for to continue my education and my love for the game of soccer. I will continue to work hard in school, out of school and share my love for the game with others. My approach is to push myself hard, look at my strengths and weaknesses and challenge myself to be the best I can be and also the best team player in any manner I can.
