I started playing soccer when I was 9 years old. Soccer was really tough at first, I was overweight and had no confidence in myself, I was last during running and conditioning drills and never started a game. I was always very intimidated watching the other girls play because I never believed I was at their level.
When I started middle school, my attitude changed. I started working out with my dad at the gym, working out and getting in shape gave me loads of confidence and a new attitude. I practiced all summer for the fall soccer season. When I arrived at my first practice I was able to keep up with the other girls and each day I improved, eventually I became a starter that season. My coach noticed my hard work ethic and asked me to practice with his travel team. I didn’t play much until the last game of the season but gained a lot of experience and confidence during that time. My coach along with the rest of the soccer team thought I had improved enough to put me on the roster for the upcoming season. When the next season came around I had a spot on the team and eventually became a starter. I learned to never give up even if you’re down and that hard work will eventually pay off.
From this experience I have developed a great work ethic of the field as well. I’ve learned to balance soccer with my homework by always keeping a good attitude. I have retained a 4.0 GPA throughout my high school career and will be studying sports medicine in college because along with soccer, physical fitness is a passion of mine. I work out at the gym 5-6 days a week and eat a very healthy diet. I don't believe in an off season, I always keep myself mentally and physically ready to play.
