January 2015 Update: I have signed a letter of intent and committed to play soccer for Aquinas College. This opportunity is a great fit for me academically and athletically. I am extremely excited to be part of this soccer program and am looking forward to attending college at Aquinas. Due to my commitment, I will no longer be updating this profile.
November 2015 Update: My club team had a successful fall season. Our record was 13-4-4. We advanced to the Round of 16 in Michigan's State Cup competition, defended our championship in the Chicago Sockers FC Nike Classic Cup tournament, and finished first in league play (Michigan State Premier Soccer Program - Premier 2). This winter I will continue to train and play with my club team and work out individually with Coach Binder. Coach Binder won a state championship as a player for Mason High School in 1997 and played soccer at Michigan State University. He recently coached the Mason High School Boys Varsity team to the 2015 Division 2 state championship. Working with Coach Binder has been a key to my development as a player. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with him. As for academics, I took the ACT for the first time in October. I scored 31. A link to my ACT score report is provided below.
June 2015 Update: My choice to play academy soccer instead of high school soccer was a good one for me. In addition to competing against college teams with Alliance Academy's High School Girls Academy team, for the month of May and into June I was invited to train with the Michigan Lions which is Alliance Academy's new WPSL team. Michigan Lions players are strong college players including Marti Corby (2014 NCAA Division II Player of the Year), other top level Division II players, and Division I players. Training regularly with the Michigan Lions helped me grow as a player. Academically, I completed my sophomore year at Mason High School and maintained a 4.0 GPA. I earned high grades in each class during the third trimester, including an overall 100% grade in French 3B. Also, in May I received the Excellence in Chemistry award from Mason High School.
March 2015 Update: I recently completed the second trimester of my sophomore year at Mason High School. I maintained a 4.0 GPA. In addition, I was named as a Student of the Month for February 2015. This is an honor which a student can only receive once per year. This is the second time I have received this honor in high school. I also received this honor three times in middle school. A link to a video showing the presentation of this award can be found above. As a soccer player, I am looking for a roster spot on a competitive team. As a student, I am looking for a college or university where I can receive an excellent education. I understand that competitive soccer programs at good colleges or universities will not only be looking for quality soccer players. They will also be looking for quality people. The Student of the Month video says a lot about me as a student, but it says a lot about me as a person as well.
February 2015 Update: I have accepted an invitation to train and compete this coming summer as part of Alliance Academy's US Club Soccer Summer Academy program. Alliance Academy is based in Grand Rapids. The Alliance Academy club team from my age group is probably the best team in Michigan. That team won Michigan's State Cup competition for 2013, 2014, and 2015. That team also won the regional championship in 2014. Top players from several other clubs in Michigan and Illinois have also been invited to participate along with members of this team. Participating in Super Y the past two years has helped me improve, but two things make this a better choice for my development. First, the high level of players associated with the program will help me continue to improve. Second, the summer academy teams will be competing in the US Club Soccer National Cup tournament and other showcase events. This will give me the opportunity to play against top level competition. I feel honored to have been invited and I am very much looking forward to competing with and against top level players this summer. Summer academy events have been listed above.
January 2015 Update: I have decided to play academy soccer this spring, instead of playing for my high school. I will be participating in the Girls High School Academy program offered by Alliance Academy in Grand Rapids. I am fully committed to becoming the best soccer player I can be and finding a college roster spot for the fall of 2017. The Mason High School girls soccer program is very strong, but the high level of play, emphasis on player development, and exposure to college soccer programs offered by the academy program will be a better option for my development this spring. A schedule of academy games is provided above.
December 2014: I have found that the most important talent in soccer is the ability to work hard in both intensity and in volume. I work with intensity during practice and in game situations. I also work a lot by seeking out extra training and playing opportunities. But to me this is not truly work. It is not work when you are doing what you love. I love soccer and I am determined to find a roster spot on a college team for the fall of 2017.
I have been playing soccer for the Chill SBC Soccer Club since the Fall of 2010. I currently play for the club’s U16 Blue Team, who have been ranked as high as 14th in Michigan. I play mainly defensive midfield, but I also have much experience playing center back, and occasionally play attacking midfield. I am a possession style player, but I do not possess just to hold the ball. I look to damage opponents with my passing ability and tactical awareness. I think I am wired differently than most girls my age because I think of my team, before myself. My on-field communication with my teammates is exceptional; I am honored to serve as a team captain. I enjoy motivating my teammates to do their best and to improve, so my entire team can get better together.
I have done a lot of training, on top of my normal club training, to help me improve personally and achieve my goal of playing college soccer. I attend Mason High School in Mason, Michigan. The Mason boys soccer program has won three state championships; in 2014 the team advanced to the state semifinals where they lost to the eventual state champions. Since June of 2013, I have trained regularly with the Mason High School Boys Varsity Coach, Nick Binder. I have also played Super Y. As a U14 player I played for the TNT Dynamite Soccer Club (based in Lansing) and as a U15 player I played up two years with Alliance Academy (based in Grand Rapids). My coaches have recognized my performance with several awards. I have been selected twice as most improved player (U12 and U13) and once as the most valuable player (U15). My teammates have also recognized my contributions by naming me as the players’ player (U14).
On top of everything soccer related, I am an excellent student. I have a 4.0 GPA. Not only do I have a 4.0 GPA, but I work hard and normally earn extremely high grade averages in each class. For example, my biology teacher told me that I was the first student she has had in 12 years of teaching to receive 100% on all quizzes, tests, the final exam, and all other graded assignments. I challenge myself, too, by taking multiple advanced sophomore classes, such as French 3 and Honors American Literature. In college, I am interested in studying psychology, another science, or business.
