My name is Emily Hespeler. I am an aggressive, tall goalkeeper, with quick reflexes. I have played soccer for 10 years. I developed as a field player, and have good field skills, though early on I gravitated to keeper.
I benefited in my initial years from coaches who worked to develop me as a keeper, and then through clinics I attended. My development progressed in recent years as I began club play; and introduced weight training. Playing with Club Benfica the last two seasons has gained me not only GK specific training; but better opponents who push my level of play. Prior to Benfica my confidence grew as I played as a goalkeeper on a U18 District Select team, even though I was only 14 years old.
I am always looking to make myself better, and learn to get an edge as a goalkeeper. For example, I have always been a thin kid and knew that if I wanted to improve on the field I needed to get stronger. So, I made a promise to myself to start lifting more weights. Lifting two to three times a week I now see a definite improvement on the field in my speed, agility, and ability to absorb impact. I try to live this way by working to improve in all aspects of my life. If I am struggling in school, I DO something about it. I bring this determination onto the field, and let nothing get in my way of winning. In addition, I will carry this attitude of perseverance to any school I go to. I want to play at the collegiate level for a school who will value this attitude and my strong work ethic.
I am interested in studying in the science or medical field, but have not yet decided on a major. I prefer a medium sized school, but am not opposed to bigger or smaller ones. I am open to playing at any division level. Please get in touch with me, so we can learn how I can bring my leadership, and love for soccer to your program.
