Katherine Shields '16 Recruiting Profile

I've been playing sports throughout my entire life, but once I hit high school I realized my true love for soccer. I've been playing since the 3rd grade on my schools' teams and have always loved the game. I strive to be aggressive and have a voice amongst my team on and off the field. I gained a lot of experience my first year when I started on varsity playing as a striker. My second year I started on varsity again as an outside midfielder, but then got moved back to defense when one of our starting defenders was injured. I ended up starting on defense the rest of the year, as well as this year and it has become one of my favorite positions. I can get to the ball quickly and keep my competitor in front of me before clearing the ball. I also have experience as the backup goalkeeper on my team, which is another one of my favorite positions. I'm a very vocal player and I know how to stay on my feet. Having played many different positions, I feel as though I could be a significant addition to another team.

As for my schoolwork, I take my academics very seriously maintaining a weighted GPA of a 4.15 and an unweighted GPA of a 3.5. I have succeeded in all honors and AP classes throughout my years in high school as well as staying involved in extracurricular activities such as Student Council, National Honors Society, and I am the Student Member on my county's Board of Education. 

I have always loved sports and playing on a team. I show a lot of school spirit, and can get along with anyone I am around. It would be my absolute dream to have the experience of playing soccer at a collegiate level. I hope to be a role model to the younger girls on my team so they can see me accomplish my goals, and follow in my footsteps.
