The highlight of my soccer career has definitely been this past high school season. My small Christian school team won our program’s first sectional game! Then, we won another one, and then we beat a team we have never come close to beating, and came home with a sectional title! One week later we were the proud owners of a regional championship. Our season ended soon afterwards, but it was still truly amazing. My little team, full of still green soccer players, went and took on the world, or at least the region! Leading my team through this was truly amazing. Three times throughout the tournament I was given the responsibility of scoring the game changing/winning penalty shot, and all three times I kept my cool and followed through. My leadership skills shone through this year, and so did my dedication to my team.
However, more importantly, this year my life changed forever. On September 2 of this year I found out my only sibling and best friend, Robin, has stage 4 bone cancer. My little sister’s diagnosis has changed me so much. It has effected everything from my priorities to the sports I play. Up until this September, I have always played soccer, track, basketball, and raced race cars. However, I am now unable to play basketball and race. Nothing is the same, even my drive to play college soccer is different. This trial has only strengthen my family’s bond and faith in God. It’s even given me more drive than ever to work hard at sports, and make it to the collegiate level. Robin and I used to practice sports together. I used to train her and teach her every tick I knew. Now that she is unable to play sports, I don’t just play soccer and run track for me. I do it for her as well.
Every Tuesday get foot skill training with some friends at the local indoor soccer club, and when school is out I will be doing kick boxing with my friend who is in the National Guard. Since, I am no longer playing basketball I am able to attend up to two extra hours every day at school in various help classes, which I always take advantage of. My grades dropped last quarter after my sister’s diagnosis. However, I am working as hard as possible to get my grades back up. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement. I realize it is much longer than ideal. I guess I am just long winded!
