Personal Statement

I love soccer and academics and have high aspirations in both. My ambitions are matched by my dedication, work ethic, and resilience. I have had to come back from significant illness and injury twice. I worked hard and maintained top grades at one of the best prep schools in the country despite the absences. I also picked up extra practices and trainings to help me come back strong athletically. As the only sophomore on a Flight 1 Club team of mostly seniors, I was brought on as a developmental player in June 2017 and by August had earned at least half of the playing time in almost every game. ActivitiesArts: I am a member of the Los Angeles Children's Chorus's Concert Choir. I have performed with organizations such as the Pasadena Symphony, the UCLA Choir, and for Chorus America. I am excited to sing at Disney Hall in a week! I took fine arts workshops this summer at Art Center College for Design in Pasadena. I am a member of my high school's A Cappella and Book Clubs. I am a staff writer for my school's newspaper. Service and Leadership: I am a Senior Girl Scout, having earned my Bronze and Silver Awards, and I am working towards my Gold Award. I earned a position in Los Angeles County Fire Department Explorer Post 4, and am working to qualify to represent LAFD at community events and go on calls with the Post. I sought this out both for service opportunities and because it lets me get exposure to emergency medicine. My volunteer work includes being a summer camp counselor for the YWCA, Girl Scouts, and a Child and Family Services Center called Hathaway Sycamores. I also served as an event staffer for the Hemophilia Foundation of Southern California, and as a volunteer for Verdugo Hills Hospital. Cooking and Baking: I love to bake and experiment with flavors, such as Strawberry Hibiscus Cupcakes.
