Hi, my name is Martina Bueno. I am a sophomore at Mesa Community College (MCC) in Mesa, AZ where I recently completed my second season as a college soccer player. For MCC I was a starting player and played at right mid or center forward the majority of the time. This season I also spent a bit of time playing outside defense. I was one of the top scorers for my team and really liked the higher level of competitiveness at the college level. I am dedicated to improving as a player and look forward to continuing my journey at a 4 year in 2018.
Previously I attended Mingus Union High School in Cottonwood, AZ where I was a starting Varsity player on the girls soccer team since my freshman year. I have been playing soccer since I was 6 years old and continue to dedicate myself to the sport. During my freshman year (2012-2013) my high school team played in the Division III state championship game, and although we did not win the game, this will always be a motivator for me to work hard and strive for success. During my sophmore year (2013-2014) my team made it to the Divison III state semi-finals despite the loss of 6 starting seniors from the previous season which was a huge accomplishment! During my junior season (2014-2015) we were eliminated during the quarter finals with a loss to the same team that we lost to in the semi-finals last year, making a tough loss even tougher! During my senior year my team faced some challenges with being moved up a division and having a new coach, as a team we struggled but I am ultimately proud of my team and myself and was the top scorer for my team.
I was also named AZ Central Division III Honorable mention during my freshman year and Second Team All Division and First Team All Section during my sophmore year and junior years. My goal is to continue to play soccer at a competitive level in college for as long I possibly can. I am also willing to put in the hard work and dedication to be allowed to do this. I am currently pursuing an associates in general studies and am interested in pursuing a bachelors in nursing. In my own life, athletics has played a very large role with a positive influence. I believe I am a good candidate for a team because of the qualities previously discussed, and also I work very hard for my team to succeed. My stats show that I have about as many assists as I have personal goals. This is very important to promote the success of the team.
