Being a rower requires a driven mental focus that relies on complex thought through each and every stroke that propels the water. THIS is why I fell in love with the sport, because it provides consistent challenges, requiring me to work hard daily to improve….forever improving my skills as a rower.
Facing change has become one of my strengths. As I approached my junior year of High School, my family moved from Green Bay, Wisconsin to Knoxville, TN. I took on the challenge of meeting new friends, establishing my sense of self within my new environment and grew my relationship with my family and God. My perspective of such large changes has always been optimistic, as I know it affords me a new path with new opportunities, making my esteem and character stronger. Accepting change has allowed me to improve my mental focus coming into rowing and as I begin my new journeys of collegiate rowing, selecting college and career path.
I picked up rowing in early March of this year, after ending my 12 year competitive swimming career. Although swimming was an incredible sport in which I was very passionate about, I felt it was time for some change and I was encouraged to try rowing. As rowing practices progressed, I knew I had found a new passion, one that has driven me past previous limitations that I thought I had and created a strong ambition to continuously thrive and move forward as an athlete. As a competitive athlete, I am not only self-disciplined and hardworking, but I am also very supportive to all of my teammates. I love to encourage my fellow teammates to strive through whatever may be standing in their way because I know that they are capable of reaching unimaginable standards. Being by their side, helping them to keep a positive mindset serves as a reminder for myself to do the same. Role modeling good character and hard work is one of the best investments to offer both myself and my team! The sport of rowing requires a strong mental focus. I thrive in this environment and its needs fit my passion well. Every day that I row or workout with my team, I love it more and more.
I also work very hard to balance my athletics and academics, knowing that this is critical to my overall success. At present, I have maintained a 3.7 GPA and I recently received the National Honors Society Award due to my serving over 25+ community service hours along with being an honors student. In addition, my academic strength and desires are seen with my class choices as I managed to take multiple AP courses to better prepare myself for collegiate classes. Currently, I am interested in majoring in Nutrition and Health Science, with hopes to pursue my Doctor of Osteopathy. Thank you and I look forward to speaking with you regarding rowing and academics at your University/College!
