When I was younger I always passed by the Passaic River and saw numerous boats on the water. I told my mother when I get in high school, I wanted to join crew. I worked out as much as I could even though I was not athletic. However, I gave it my all during the months leading up to the season. My novice year has consisted of determination and ambition to improve. I received my personal best on almost every 2K. I always listened to my coach when it came to my technique, eating habits, and excercises. I always listen to advice because in the end, I want to give it my best. I want to row competively in the collegiate level. I am positive that I can fit in with a new environment than my traditional Belleville Crew. For example, this 2015 season has been a tremendous change for everyone. The Head Coach has been changed and everyone knew it would not be the same. People did not like how much our life in crew has changed. Therefore, rowers and coxswains quit, many tears were shed, the environment of the boathouse was depressing. We had about 20 rowers in the beginning of the season and ended it with about 10. We stuck through it as a team, during the entire season, because we all have a love for the sport. Therefore, I learned that I should never deny change. It should be accepted and be dealt with as a team. We have to motivate each other throughout the day because a team sticks together.
I treat my academics the same way I treat rowing. I strive for excellence and attempt to exceed limits and expectations. I am never satisfied with anything lower than an A, therefore, I believe that my academics are vital to my success and I intend to have the same work ethic throughout my entire education. Additionally, I am friendly towards others, especially new people. I love meeting new people, expanding my horizons, and being able to have an understanding of the world around me. I am never mean to anyone and I always intend to make everyone feel welcome. For example, there are some hostilities towards the incoming novice. Therefore, I am friendly towards them because I want them to feel like they are a part of this team. My academics, friendliness, adaptability, strive for improvement, and ability to receive criticism from others makes me the rower that I am.
