I joined my high school rowing team as a freshman after watching my older brother train. Rowing was one of the best ideas my brother passed on to me. I have enjoyed learning to row and have worked hard at improving my technique. The camaraderie of training and competing with my teammates is like no other. I enjoy being on the water and the exhilaration of competition- afterwards I wonder what could have been if I had pulled just a little harder.
I am a self-motivated person and I push myself because I enjoy improving and success. Since my second season rowing, I have been competing on my teams V1 boat, the highest level available to me. I hope to go to nationals at some point during my high school rowing experience and I know that as a team, we have a real chance to get there. My training goal for the spring of 2015 is to get my 2k time to under 7:30. Training hard, eating right, and staying focused will result in success this coming season. I have every expectation of accomplishing these goals.
In both 2013 and 2014, I gained valuable experience participating in the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta and in the Head of the Charles Regatta. In 2014 I attended the Junior B Sculling Camp in Saratoga NY and improved my sculling technique. In addition to sculling, I rowed on the Charles for the Charles River Rowing Camp and attended the Sparks sweep development camp in San Diego last December.
I have greatly enjoyed the training, competition and physical dedication needed to row at a high level while also committing myself to my schoolwork and studies. I plan to continue this combination of working and studying hard in college. I hope to attend a college known for excellence that will allow me to succeed at he highest level in both these endeavors.
