Katherine Derrick '12 Recruiting Profile

My name is Katie Derrick and I go to Fairfax High School in Fairfax, VA. I am interested in playing lacrosse competitively at a college level. I am 5'6" and 135 pounds. I am also the quickest team member on the Varsity Lacrosse team at my high school. Track has helped me succeed that! I am going into my Junior year at Fairfax this fall of 2010. I have played at the varisty level since I entered high school as a freshman. I played 3 previous years in elementary and middle school for club teams. Lacrosse is my passion, it is what I look forward to every day during the season, and every day off season as well. I have put together an off/pre-season conditioning workout for my team and will lead that this fall and winter. Lacrosse is my get away. It is the thing that makes me feel like I am on top of the world when I'm playing. I never get as pumped as I do before I play lacrosse. I put my all into not just games, but practice as well. I take it seriously, but also know how to have a good time while playing my beloved sport. My drive to succeed in lacrosse is huge. I have a love for the game that I couldn't tell you where it came from, but it's there. Our team has learned that practice only makes perfect if you do it right. Playing lacrosse in college has been my dream since I started playing in elementary school. When it comes to schools that I am interested in, I want somewhere where players share my love for lacrosse and my longing to personally succeed, and succeed as a team. I'd love to stay in the East/on the East Coast, but I am always up to try new things. I'm looking for a big school with lots of spirit and support. DI, DII, DIII doesn't matter to me as long as I am feeling the joy of playing. My goals for the future are to get playing time as a freshman, have a positive and contagious attitude towards fellow players, and to impact the team and share my passion. I want to be the best that I can be, and always work to 110% and beyond. It is my life goal to never look back and wish I had worked harder at something. Success comes from within.
