Hi. My name is Julia Harrigan and I am currently a junior at Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. In addition to lacrosse, I have been playing a variety of sports all my life including tennis, hockey, soccer, gymnastics, and sailing. I‘ve been playing lacrosse since I was 6 years old. Since my freshman year I have been on the Varsity team as a starter and key player. My strengths on the field are speed, passing, my ability to see the field, and being a team player. I also have a strong shot and solid stick skills. I enjoy scoring and setting up teammates for goals, which is why I am an attacker. I also love running down and helping my teammates on defense and making interceptions, which is why I sometimes play midfield. I love competing and challenge myself by playing Varsity Tennis and Varsity Ice Hockey during the off season. These sports also allow me to have great endurance because I am constantly running and skating. I have been playing select lacrosse since 7th grade and participated on club teams in the fall and summer seasons for New England United (NEU). This summer I am attending 4 tournaments with NEU - IAS Girls Showcase Challenge (June 9 in Marlborough, MA), Northeast Challenge (June 14-16 in Byfield, MA), Brine Club Championships (July 5-7 in Howard County, MD), and the LI Elite Tournament (July 27 in Uniondale, NY). I am 5’8” and 125 pounds. Proud athletic accomplishments have been reaching 100 points, scoring 100 goals, and being the first sophomore to ever complete these milestones in Portsmouth High School history. During my freshman year, we advanced to the semi-finals in the playoffs, which before this year, was the furthest my school has gone in history. I contributed with 4 goals and an assist including the game winner in the last minute of the 11-8 victory. Last year as a sophomore, I received second team all-state. This year, my team made it all the way to the State Championship game. I contributed 4 goals, 2 assists, 3 caused turnovers, and 8 ground balls. I received first team All-State this year and was the top scorer on my team. I finished the season with 71 goals and 10 assists. It has been a goal of mine to play at the collegiate level since I started playing when I was 6 years old. I am looking for a school that will challenge me both academically and athletically. Academically, I am interested in studying either Business or in a Liberal Arts program. Athletically, I am looking for a program that will allow me to grow with an increasing level of contribution in as competitive environment as possible. I am open to selective schools, looking for the one that fits me best and that allows me to play the game I love to the best of my ability. I'm very coachable, a quick learner, respectful teammate, energetic and fun to be around. I am also a leader on and off the field, extremely determined, and motivated in all areas of my life. I'm involved in many extra curricular activities at my school including National Honor Society, Model UN, Mock Trial, and Community Service Club. I will do whatever it takes to achieve my goal of playing lacrosse in college. Thank you for being interested enough to read about me and I hope I am a good candidate for your school. I look forward to hearing about your program.
