My name is Allison Cook and I will be a senior this fall at Marquette High School. One of my goals is to attend a top rated university that will challenge and prepare me for a career in the field of Exercise Science and Kinesiology as well as provide me an opportunity to play lacrosse collegiately. I have loved playing sports since I was younger and started playing year-round basketball when I was in the fifth grade. I understand the commitment and desire to be the best athlete possible. I traveled to many tournaments during that time and in eighth grade my basketball team got second place at the MAYB National Tournament in Oklahoma City. From those experiences, I have learned that I have a great passion to play team sports and I pride myself on being a great teammate and a competitive athlete.
As a freshman at Marquette, I made the junior varsity basketball team. My hard work and skills provided me an opportunity to also play on the varsity team as a freshman. During both my sophomore and junior years I have played on varsity and also plan to play varsity my senior year.
As a freshman I also started playing lacrosse. My high school lacrosse coach saw me playing basketball and encouraged me to try out for the lacrosse team. I found that the skills I learned in basketball helped me transition into playing lacrosse. I made the junior varsity team but before the season was over, I moved up to varsity and was awarded Rookie of the Year. Since then I have been a starter on the varsity team my sophomore and junior years and as a junior I made the Second Team All-Conference. In the summers and off-seasons, I have continued to work on conditioning, speed, and stick skills to get better. This summer my lacrosse team will play in the Indian Prairie Showdown tournament near Chicago, Illinois. I’m looking forward to the competition and to use the experience to keep improving.
During my junior year, I coached a lacrosse team of third and fourth graders and I loved watching them improve their skills throughout the season. Now, my goal is to be an athletic trainer, physical therapist or possibly even a coach because I want to help athletes improve. I know I still have much to learn about lacrosse but I’m coachable and have always prided myself on giving 100% all the time and seeking to be the best I can.
