I just started my senior year (Class of 2014) at Parkway West High School in Ballwin, MO. I had an extremely rigorous schedule my junior year. I think it is very important to find a balance between sports and school and I have never sacrificed one for the other; I continue to keep high academic standards during all my sports seasons. In the future, I would love to pursue a career in the medical field. My goal is to get my doctorates and specialize in pediatric nutrition. I’m interested in schools that offer great nutrition programs that help me learn and excel.
School is important, but my true passion lies on the field. I am very athletic and am in top physical condition. Currently, I am a tri-athlete, participating in Cross Country, Swim and Lacrosse (the three hardest sports my school has to offer, if you ask me). I can be seen as a leader in all three sports and am captain of cross country and lacrosse. My true love is in lacrosse. I first started playing in 5th grade (seven years ago) and haven’t put down my stick since. I have played for countless leagues and participated in dozens of camps to increase my athletic ability. I am honored to say I have also competed on the Women's Division National Team for two years. This summer I will be my second year to play for a select travel team called STL True Lacrosse. True provides me with the training from previous DI and DII lacrosse players. Whenever there is an opportunity to play lacrosse, you can count on me being there.
This year, my junior year, was by far the best season I have had to date. I switched from attack to mid-field for my high school team; I took my summer training with True as an opportunity to become a better defender. With my improved defense, running and physical training over the last year, I can be seen as an extremely versatile player. My work with True was shown in my high school season when my coaches at Parkway West awarded me with the Off-Season Effort Award-For most improved in the off- season. This year I stepped up as a leader and captain on the team to push myself, and my team, to new levels. Overall, my team was ranked 7th in Missouri. I finished the season ranked 10th in Missouri, for goals and assists (50 goals and 24 assists). It was amazing to see my efforts paying off when I received 1st Team All-Conference- an award only given to 20 high school lacrosse players in public school lacrosse. I was also honored by receiving 2nd Team All-State-Making me one of the top 8 mid-fielders in Missouri. Lastly, I received Academic All-American-awarded to players who maintain a 3.5 G.P.A. and above during their high school season. This season has only made me more anxious to see what is to come for my senior year.
Once you see the long hours of effort and work I have put in, on and off the field, I think my skills are clear. I have determination, leadership, drive and passion; with all of these attributes, I will settle for nothing but success. I know I have a lot more work to put in before I reach my full potential as a lacrosse player. Participating in three sports should make it evident that I am familiar with honoring a commitment and giving 110% into whatever I do. My love for the game keeps me always wanting more. I have never settled, or told myself that I am “good enough” because every player can improve. Lastly, lacrosse makes me happy. I wouldn’t play if it didn’t, and that is why I have grown so attached to the game. Every play, every dodge, every move on the field makes me remember why I continue to push myself to new limits. One thing is for certain: I will never stop.
