Recruiting Profile Statement: My name is Natalie Fraser; I am 16 years old, 5`6`` 135 lbs hockey player, class of 2014. I spent the last two years developing my skills at the Canadian International Hockey Academy (Prep school) and playing as an affiliate player with the Nepean Wildcats of the PWHL. In order to better prepare myself for university hockey I wanted to play in the PWHL during my last year of High School. In April 2013 I attended the Ottawa Lady's Senators' training camp and was selected for the team; I will be playing defense and I shoot right. As a result I will be playing Jr- Intermediate "AA" in the Provincial Women Hockey League (PWHL) for the 2013-2014 season and I am very excited about that opportunity because I believe that the level of hockey competition in the PWHL is one of the best.
This summer I am doing off ice training with a personal trainer to improve my overall strength and my foot speed. In August, I will be working with Paul Lawson, power skating instructor for the Montreal Canadiens, to continue improving my over skating ability. In September 2013 I will be in grade 12 (senior) and I will be attending Cairine Wilson High School in Orleans Ontario. I have submitted my official transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Centre. I took the SAT last October but will be doing it again this coming fall to improve my score.
From September 2011 to June 2013 I completed my grade 10 (sophomore)and grade 11 (junior) at the Canadian International Hockey Academy (CIHA) a premier hockey boarding institution (Prep school), in Rockland Ontario, Canada. CIH Academy offers a program that is officially sanctioned through Hockey Canada. CIH Academy's relationship with Hockey Canada means that I had access to Hockey Canada-certified coaches and the benefit of the best elite hockey training and experience possible. I truly believe CIH Academy that, through a balance between academics, athletics and social life, prepared me well to fulfill my dream of playing hockey in College.
In May 2012 and May 2013 I was selected to attend Team Ontario evaluation camp and I was invited to return for the final selection camp in August 2012. On June 27, 2013 I was invited for the final evaluation camp August 25-28, 2013 in Etobicoke, ON.
I was selected to play on the North American Stars and represented North America during a 7 day tour of Germany, Austria and Italy in March 2012. The team competed against the German National team and the Austrian U18 and Italian U18 national team.
Ideally I am looking for an institution where I can find the right balance between the classroom and the rink; a College that will offer me a unique opportunity to pursue my hockey development while earning a College degree; a school that will help me develop a sense of independence and confidence and prepare me more for the real life; a school with a rich history and proud of its traditions. It is important to me that I am able to receive personal attention in the classroom. I am open to exploring all high academic opportunities.
Ideally, my athletic environment would be one where I could play as a freshman, make an immediate impact on the team and play the highest competition level possible. In addition to my skating ability, I am a hockey player with speed, toughness, vision and an athletic ability to succeed. As a defenseman, my coaches describe me as having the ability to make the first pass out of the zone while reading the play and using the entire ice. They say my speed and offensive skill make me a puck carrying threat through the neutral zone and provide another dimension to the team's offensive attack. I have a strong shot from the point and make good decisions in the offensive zone. At the Academy I also developed my skills as a forward which gives me an opportunity to be a more complete and versatile player. I am always willing to play any position that the coaches feel would benefit the team as a whole. I use my speed effectively to create turn overs or to forecheck the other team. My coaches describe me as a power forward. I have great open-ice speed and I am not afraid to carry the puck or to battle in the corners. I am described as a team player who works hard on and off the ice and who competes hard during the games.
Off ice, my coaches say that I demonstrate all of the necessary intangibles to further my development as a player and as a person. They say that I have a strong work ethic, demonstrate consistency in academics and athletics and that I have very strong leadership skills. During my last year of High School, I will continue to work hard to improve my hockey skills, work hard in the classroom to remain on the honour role and mature into a great athlete and person. My coaches consider me as a leader and I will continue to be a role model and mentor for the younger players on the team. I believe, as a young athlete, there is no better place for me to build my skills and to acquire an education than in College.
Here is quote I recently received from a NCAA Coach: "...I personally feel that you are a Div. 1 player and I sincerely hope that you have the opportunity to play at that level. Based on the short time I have known you and the few conversations we have had I have no doubts about how committed and interested you are in becoming the best player you can be."
