Hello, my name is Abby Nelson. I appreciate you taking the time to view my profile.
I live in Chaska, Minnesota and I am a sophomore at Chaska High School. I have been playing youth association hockey for 7 years and AAA hockey for seven years. Three years ago I started playing for my high school hockey team as the only 8th grader on the team.
Growing up in Minnesota has allowed me the opportunity to watch some of the best collegiate men’s and women’s hockey in the country. I have always envisioned myself playing hockey at the collegiate level. Now as a sophomore, I am continuing to focus on that goal but I will also continue focusing on attaining an excellent education. I am the type of person that takes my education very seriously as reflected in the grades I earn and the challenging classes I take.
One of my best personal skills is time management which is likely due to the fact that I love to be busy. Balancing sports, education, and a social life has never been an issue for me. In addition to playing hockey, I also began playing golf for the Chaska High School JV team as a 7th grader and now play on the Varsity golf team in the #2 position. I also joined the JV tennis team as a sophomore. I was a forward for my first four years of hockey. As a result, one of my greatest strengths as a defenseman is that I play very offensively. I love setting up breakouts and know that if I don’t start the breakout I am putting my team in jeopardy and the opposing team at an advantage. I also love playing defense in the offensive zone. If the defense is not able to properly do their job and keep the puck in the offensive zone, then the play will move towards our goalie. Being a forward and switching to defense has provided me with different perspectives. I see the entire ice in a different way and I know what the forwards expect from the defense.
My long term goal in life is to play hockey at the collegiate level and obtain a top notch education in a healthcare sciences field. I know my strong work ethic, competitive personality, and high level of integrity will prove to make me a valuable team player down the road.
