My name is Ashley and I am a junior at Shrewsbury High School. I've had trouble in my first 2 years of high school, but we finally found out why. I was diagnosed with ADD at the end of my sophomore year and since then my grades have changed dramatically. I made high honor roll for the first time in my high school career and I use that as a huge confidence booster because now I know that I am smart enough to do that. My GPA for junior year right now is between a 3.7-3.9 on a 5.0 scale. I'm planning on taking all honors and AP classes for my senior year, including AP psychology which I am interested in majoring in. I have not been playing hockey for very long, but I figure skated for 9 years and then made the switch to hockey when I was in 8th grade. I was a practice player/manager for the girls varsity hockey team at my school. I now play regularly and I feel like in my 3 years of playing, I've improved so much and I still am improving every day I get on the ice. This season I scored 3 goals and had 2 assists for a total of 5 points. I know I don't have many points, but I create a lot of scoring chances by using my speed to beat the defensemen wide and get shots on net. When I'm not playing sports and not in school, I spend most of my time doing reach out work at my church, St. Andrew's of North Grafton. I participate in a group called YWAM (Youth with a Mission). We go out to Worcester or surrounding areas and learn about all the homeless men, women and children near us and how we can help them. This is one of my favorite things to do because we get to go out in the cities and see how and where these people are living. It's life changing when you see these people because it makes you think that it could one day be you living like them and you learn to not take anything for granted. I think I'm a good candidate for your team because I know I still need work, but I'm willing to put all my time and energy in to become a better player. I love motivating others to be their best all the time. I find myself as a leader on and off the ice and I am someone who my teammates can come talk to if they need anything.
