My name is Caitlyn Tasney and I would like to tell you a little about myself. Some of it will be golf related, but some will be on a more personal level. I am a confident 17 year old young woman who has been brought up by strong faith based parents. I am the second oldest child of six siblings and very close with all of them. They are not just my family, but they are my friends and the ones I spend most of my time with. My mom and dad are my role models and raise us in a way that I am very proud.
I'm looking forward to the journey of finding the right college or university that meets my personal, educational, and career goals. It will be a great opportunity for me to mature into the type of adult I want to become in the proper atmosphere. There is also the excitement of creating lifetime friendships with my future college coach, teammates, and classmates.
I started playing golf at the age of 9. My dad was a competitive junior player and became a club professional many years ago. Although no longer employed in the golf, he wanted to share his love of the game with us. My parents originally got all of us involved in martial arts, because they knew it would help us both physically and mentally. I have taken martial arts since I was 4 years old and have attained black belts in both Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo. I won numerous local and state championships in martial arts, but knew I wanted something different. After achieving my 2nd black belt, my older brother and I told our dad we would like to go hit golf balls. He said that was fine, but he would only agree if we learned how to do it properly. We had a lot of fun going to local golf camps and such, while my father was teaching us. By the time I turned 11, I wanted to try to play in some tournaments. Once I started competing, I realized that this was the game for me. I loved playing a sport where the results are fully dependent on my own abilities. it was very much like martial arts in that respect. Since moving to Ohio in the spring of 2013, my father turned my golf instruction over to a LPGA professional who he strongly respects. He said it was time to be just dad and not swing instructor, although he always is there to watch if I need him.
I have been participating in a number of local events for the last 3 years. The Columbus Municipal Jr. Tour is the one I played in the most and there were plenty of quality female players on this tour. A number of them have all ready moved on and play in colleges throughout the country. I have been successful enough to win Player of the Year my first 3 years on the tour. This year I was signed up to play the tour again, but have been focusing strongly on some swing changes that have had me working hard all spring and summer. I was lucky enough to have some college coaches come watch me work on my game while they were in town. They have agreed that they liked the progress I have been making. My parents were also limited financially this summer, so I had to wait until July to start playing in a couple events before my heavy fall schedule. Please review my NCSA profile throughout the rest of this 2016 season. I'm looking forward to playing well enough to start receiving recruiting calls in September.
