I remember my first golf lesson very well; a nine year old girl on a cold and wet day in November standing in a hitting bay with my golf instructor maneuvering my small fingers into a Vardon grip. That was it, my entire lesson taking my fingers on and off a rusty 8 iron- I did not hit one golf ball that day. My golf journey, which had begun in the most benign of ways, has blossomed into a passion for the game that beckons me each day to grow as a player as well as a person.
I have been blessed to be surrounded by a family which has unequivocally supported the thrills of my successes and victories, as well as the challenges and humility athletic competition provides to all who partake in the quest. Having competed in several regional golf tours over the last six years, I have learned it takes tenacity to reach a new level of growth, and that each step forward requires my deepening resolve and commitment before continuing the ascent.
The greatest pleasure in my young golf career is being the first female in Bishop Stang High School’s fifty year history to play on the boy's varsity golf team. As a three year varsity player, I have taken great pride in growing as an individual player as well as helping my team achieve the group goals of three winning seasons that culminated in sectional appearances on Cape Cod.
As a future member of a collegiate golf team I am committed to continue being a player who demonstrates consistent improvement in tournament play and a person dedicated to team success. Likewise, as a student athlete, I am responsible not only for improving the score on my golf card, but my academic score card as well. Becoming a collegiate athlete is that next step forward, a new level of growth I have proclaimed to aspire. I am prepared for the dedication it will take to continue my ascent in an environment of academic excellence and rigor. I am looking forward to playing golf within an academic institution that has attained these ideals well before my small fingers ever gripped an old 8 iron.
