My name is Victoria Kwak (Vickie) and I am a senior at Lawton Chiles High School in Tallahassee, Florida. I am looking to attend a university with a strong academic program and highly competitive golf team. My golf career began one day when I asked my Dad if I could go with him to the driving range and the rest is history, I have been hooked ever since. I absolutely love the sport and have been playing competitive golf for just over 4 years.
I was the only freshman to make the varsity team at my high school, and had a top twelve finish in the 3A Florida High School Regional tournament as a sophomore. During my senior season, I was the individual medalist in 6 out of 12 matches. My high school team also took part in a major tournament at Fort Walton Beach Golf Course. Ten high school teams plus individual players were present from across North Florida. That day, I shot a 79 and tied for 5th out of 60 players. During this year’s 3A FHSAA District and Regional tournaments I posted two top ten finishes. I finished 4th shooting a 79 at Districts, while at Regionals I tied for 9th out of 54 girls, with a round of 78.
I lettered in golf for four years, and was named to the First Team All Big Bend for the third consecutive year. For the second straight year I was selected to participate in the Florida Panhandle Cup held in Sandestin Florida. The format of this event is match play, (Ryder/Solheim Cup-style). Each year, eight boys and four girls from the East/West regions of the Florida Panhandle are selected based upon their stroke averages during the high school season, individual tournament performance, sportsmanship and character.
Outside of high school golf, my tournament play has included events on the AJGA, HJGT, FJT and SJGT schedules. This past summer I also participated in the IJGT College Golf Camp tournament at Waterchase Golf Club in Dallas Texas. I shot a two-day total of 158, finishing 3rd out of 22 players.
My goal is to play and contribute at the college level and beyond. I study and work very hard in school and at my golf game. I’m a self-starter who thrives in a team setting and I really enjoy helping others.
