Personal Statement

I am in the Class of 2018 and am a member of the National Honor Society.  Both my teachers and dive coach say I am motivated and committed to both academic and diving excellence. I enjoy trying to balance academics and diving, although I admit it is difficult when I have to stay up past midnight on school nights doing homework, or studying after dive practice! I intend to take Health Sciences or Biology for my major because I want to work in health care, due to my mom's example as a Critical Care RN.  My college goals are to both graduate with excellent grades and work hard to help my swim and dive team win!

What makes me a good candidate for your team?  How am I different from other dive recruits?

Character

You can see I am a person of good character, and help others less fortunate than myself by the following examples.

I helped build a house, all work done by hand,  in February, 2017, for a family in Mexico over four days in rainy and windy conditions. I serve as a school leader on Link Crew,  manage freshmen at school at the start of the year,  and have volunteered at my school to do other community service through National Honor Society. I continue to serve as captain of my  high school dive team (2016-2017, 2017-2018).

Athletics

You can see I am an excellent and dedicated athlete by the following results. I had to work hard to achieve these results, they did not come easy to me.

* 10 years experience as a gymnast before starting diving in 8th grade.  I am a hard worker, we worked out 4-5 hours a day, six days a week.

* Won Arizona State Championship All-Around twice in gymnastics for age group.

* Silver medalist as a junior at  AZ High School State Diving Division I (Large Schools) Championship with a score of 425 (11 dives) 2016.  Also awarded Tribune (newspaper) 2nd team Arizona All-state diving. Captain of Dive Team 2016-17

* Best high school 11 dive score is 442 on 1 meter as a Senior

* Qualified for USA Diving Zone competition 2015, 2016, 2017

* 3rd at USA Diving Regional on 1 meter 2017 (382), 7th on 3 meter (competed all 2 1/2s) (373)

* Highest score for 10 dives on 1 m: 385 and 3 m: 388 Platform: 323 (USA Diving 2017).

* Senior list 5 dives 1 m: 188 at East Valley/Sun Devil Dual meet ((USA Diving)

Academic History

You can see I am an excellent student by the following results, and am prepared for college study.

I qualified for a gifted program from 2nd to 8th grade. My cumulative GPA, 3.9, has improved annually.

As a Junior, I completed 3 dual enrolment courses (both HS and College credit), Honors Chemistry, French and American History), AP English Language, and Algebra II.  As a Senior, I have enrolled in 3 AP classes and College Algebra/Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus.

Work History

You can see I am different that other recruits because I know how to successfully hold a job.

I know how to meet and exceed job requirements (start time 6:30 a.m. ),  because I worked full time the last two summers as a swim/dive instructor and lifeguard for the City of Mesa.

To help me meet my collegiate goals and diving aspirations, I ask for the following from my coach.

My college diving coach should expect a lot from me, encourage me to do my best, and challenge me to learn more difficult dives. Currently I am working on a full 10 meter platform list. I just learned the back 2 1/2 with a twist on 10 m which takes courage! I am competing  105B, 205C, 305C and 405C on 3 meter, but I'm not satisfied with my current scores on these dives.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
