Personal Statement

The passion and love that I have for the game is unreal. Everything that I do is to better myself for basketball. My dad has been my biggest role model in teaching me how to take care of myself. With several health problems, he isn't able to do everything he wants to. After a car accident my sophomore year, I had to take time off to recover. He was always there to lift me up and support me. I still have to ice, heat and strengthen my shoulder after the accident.

As a result of being out for a while, I would spend every practice strengthening my non-dominate shooting hand. I can shoot with my left hand almost as well as my right, and I'm building up the strength to shoot from behind the three-point line with my left as well.  I didn't want to see this accident stop me from doing what I love most, so I took what I had to work with, and ran with it. My coached played me in any position that was needed. She used me as an all around player, I played anywhere from the post to point guard for a few plays. She would just yell to me as I ran down the court what number she wanted me at the time and I adjusted to what she needed.

Being determined person transfers off the court as well. From a young age, I was told I would need a hearing aid the older I got and that there was a possibility I would lose my hearing.  My basketball coach, Mary Parker and I, came up with hand signals for every play we had. I didn't let my hearing loss stop me from playing the game, and neither did she. Through school, I took sign language for college credits. In Youth Options, I was able to take this class and have completed and earned all eight credits offered. I have applied for and accepted into the Criminal Justice program they offer in the Youth Options progam.
