As a high school student athlete, I have been given many opportunites in my amateur career to be the best I can be - I am a senior (class of 2014) at Freeman High School in Rockford, Washington; as a freshman we won the Washington State 1A state title for the second year in a row. My sophomore year, we were expected to go in for a "three-peat" and ended up taking second in state. The two state championship games that I have been apart of have set the tone for what I dream and aspire to accomplish in my career to come, and that means furthering my career past high school. For the past three years, I have been playing for the Northwest Blazers Club, a traveling team, under Tom Emory and Steve Klees. I have seen, firsthand, the competition to get to a higher level on a day to day basis, in which only motivates me to prove myself to get where I know I can be in college. My future aspirations are to continue playing basketball through college, and receive the best education possible - I would like to attend a liberal arts school, in which I am interested in a Communications major or more along the lines of advertising and marketing. Through my three years of high school, I have averaged a 3.9 GPA and put my education and family before my athletics as I will continue to do. I take much pride in my academics and work hard for my grades. Being involved in extracurricular activities has been a busy yet important part of my life as well; I am FFA club President, FFA Debate Secretary and member, Conservation Club member, and enrolled in my school leadership class. Growing up, my brother has been my hero and introduced me to the game I fell in love with: basketball. Ever since he took me out in our driveway to teach me how to "shoot" as a three-year-old is able to, I have dreamed to play the game for as long as it will allow me. As of now I am playing primarily point guard, which all started in my sophomore year quarter final state game when our starting point guard was put into a box in one defense - my coach switched me from a 3 guard to a point guard and I haven't gone back! That following spring of 2012 I trained with my club coach to improve my speed, vision of the court, dexterity, and overall ball control. As a freshman and sophomore, I played a small forward (3) and transitioned into a point guard (1) by my junior year. I admit, I love the leadership role of the point guard, and the experience and hard work it took to get me where I am today has only diversified my capabilities as an athlete. Other than basketball, I play on my high school volleyball team and have played varsity all three years. My sophomore year we finished 5th at state, and this last year 8th at state. I played club volleyball for one year, and realized I enjoyed it but didn't love it! Also, I played high school varsity golf as a freshman and loved the game; As a sophomore I decided to focus on basketball in the spring and only play golf recreationally. A quote that has always kept me motivated and sincere to who I am: "When I step onto the court, I don't have to think about anything. If I have a problem off the court, I find that after I play, my mind is clearer and I can come up with a better solution. It's like therapy. It relaxes me and allows me to solve problems." -Michael Jordan
