Personal Statement

I am a first generation American. My family was born in Liberia. I am very much interested in starting my own Architectural Firm and to do that I'm looking to get my Bachelor's degree and hopefully do lots interning during the summers. When it comes to academics, my mom has help to make that the top priority in my life and that's why every year I have finished with an A in all of my classes. Given that it is only me and my mom, I haven't been able to play on a lot of AAU teams or have intense personal trainers due to either not having the money or not being able to travel around for games. The work I put in on my own is what makes me a great player.  Everyday during the summer, I am either working out, watching old game clips, or playing basketball with my teammates. I take the time to build my basketball IQ because when it comes down to those final seconds in a basketball game, awareness, accuracy and quickness are what can ultimately decide the winner.  Again, I might not have played AAU or had personal trainer, but I am 100% committed to putting in work and learning something new. Everything I do in my life, whether it is maintaining all A's or keeping up with my other extracurricular activities (track, band, clubs, etc.), I do to give back to my family. My actual family and my basketball family are the reason I am able to succeed in life. Coach Rawlyk put me on varsity my freshman year and really helped me improve all aspects of my game. It was the first time I was able to look back at myself playing and fix things like my left handed layups and corner shots. My sophomore year, he and my teammates chose me as team captain to lead us to the playoffs and I did just that. Whenever we need a last second shot or a perfect pass my teammates put the ball in my hand. So I might not be the tallest player or have the most connections with colleges and coaches, but what makes me different is I guarantee you that I will produce the highest performance in clutch moments. Just like John Paxson, the former player of the Chicago Bulls. My quickness will make me be the first one back on defense, and my eagerness to soak up information will allow you to mold me into the player I have the potential to be.
