I played on my first basketball team at eight years old, but fell in love with the sport at a much younger age. I have always believed in my heart that I would play at the collegiate level. Although my passion is to play basketball, I understand it is a vehicle to get me to my career goal of obtaining a degree in the field of psychology. I chose this field because I am a compassionate person, a good listener and love to interact with people. Ultimately, I would like to earn a doctorate in clinical psychology to help people work through and overcome their obstacles to become the best person they can be.
As a student athlete, I am determined, hardworking, and have a strong work ethic. On the court, I am a strong defensive player, a high percentage three point shooter with good court vision which generates scoring opportunities for teammates. I love the concept of a team working together to accomplish something positive. I am a leader and teammate who encourages others on a consistent basis. I also consider myself a life-long learner; therefore, I am usually looking for the next lesson from coaches and teammates.
My basketball career took a major setback when I tore my ACL in 2010. Although a big obstacle, I bounced back and proved not only to myself, but others that I could be successful. I came back better and stronger than before by diligently training and keeping a positive attitude. I made the junior varsity team as a freshman and varsity team my sophomore year. During my junior year on varsity, I received honors such as All-District and Offensive MVP. Currently, I am a senior and have been named team captain. I look forward to influencing my teammates in positive ways and learning from them as well. Although humbled by such honors; I understand these accomplishments are a way to get me closer to my goals of playing at the collegiate level and earning my degree in clinical psychology.
