My name is Delicia Garza and I've been playing basketball since I was in the first grade. Along the years, I have also played soccer, softball, volleyball, and have run track. As of right now, I still run track and play volleyball, but nothing has caught my attention as much as basketball has. Basketball makes me feel like I have no worries when I am on the court. It's just me, my team, the ball, and the hoop.
As a point guard, you have to have many qualities, such as, skills, mind, heart, and leadership. In my opinion, I have all of these qualities. As a leader, you have to be able to keep your team up, connected when losing, or not giving up. You have to be able to lead them through the whole game, even when you're down by 30 points. I try to keep a positive attitude through the whole game, even when I get emotional, I still try to stay positive.
I am very dedicated to my education. Right now I have a3.5 GPA and I am working on raising this score. I work hard when it comes to school, because not all areas of academics come easy to me. For example, I have to take extra time in doing spanish work because I struggle the most in this class. When I go to college, I would like my coach to think of me not only as a player, but as a coach in training. My goal is to become a basketball coach and getting the experience as a player and coach would be ideal. I am willing to face the challenge as a student, player, and a coach in training.
As I mentioned earlier, other than basketball, I run track and play volleyball for my school. I also play basketball in an outside leauge called Triple Threat. When I am not playing basketball, I enjoy being a teenager. I hang out with my friends and we go to the movies and dances. Because I live a busy life with school and sports, my calender stays full and it gives me little time to spend with my family. So holidays are very special times to me. We get together and cook, play games, and simply just bond and enjoy each others company. My family is not large in number, but it makes me feel good knowing I have their love and support no matter the distance between us. Because I have this strong support, I am able to feel confident in striving for what I want. Knowing I have my family's support allows me to always have a motivating drive to succeed.
