I am the second oldest of six children. Since my parents divorced, I have taken on the role of helping with my younger siblings. I am responsible for helping them get dressed for school in the morning, as well as assisting with them with their homework. I am also working a part-time job babysitting to assist with household needs. I work hard in school and on the basketball court in order to be a good example for my younger siblings.
Since age six I have dreamed of being a great basketball player. The older I get, the more I realize my dream of becoming a WNBA player may not come to fruition. However, I feel like I can use my gift (as a basketball player) to assist me in getting into and obtaining a college degree. I plan on majoring in Sports Medicine because I love athletics and want to be involved in sports for the rest of my life.
I was diagnosed with a learning disability in elementary school. It took me a few years to understand my disability. During that time, it really frustrated me that I had such a difficult time learning at the same pace of some of my peers. At the end of my 8th grade year, however, I came to the realization that I would just have to focus really hard and put extra time into my classwork. Although I have had a few negative experiences in school, my mom, along with my coaches and some of my teachers, took the time to encourage me to work hard. Because of those positive influences, I focus really hard on my studies and take pride in my education. My last two years of school I feel I have really grown up and matured in a way that's helped me in the classroom. I understand how important my academic education will be for my future and I do not take that lightly. Because of that, my progress in the classroom has improved and will continue to improve throughout the rest of my high school career. Although basketball is my main love and what I'm the best at, I know my skills will take me nowhere without carrying a solid education along with them.
