I love basketball. After trying multiple sports, I really found a connection with basketball. I am blessed to have parents who have exposed me to so many activities. Since then, I have dedicated myself to improving my game every time I step on the court, as well as when I perform my off-court training. Finding my passion for basketball late and after playing on the “B” team in middle school, I pushed myself to become a starter in my next three years at a very competitive 6A high school. I am not done. I know that I have a lot of room to keep raising the level of my game. I believe that, with me, you will find an extremely dedicated player and student of the game. I am someone that you will find is always willing to learn, take direction and keep improving.
As I said, I am working to continually improve my game and although, typically, I am playing in the low-post position, I am working to, not only improve my post moves but also improve my shooting from twelve- to fifteen-foot range. I have improved my free throw percentage over the last year by focusing on consistency. I am not afraid to be coached, in fact, welcome it.
I love being part of a team and being an inspiration to the rest of the team to keep working hard. I continue to develop my leadership skills and have been made captain of my club team. I have also been promoted to lead lifeguard for the company I work with due to taking my responsibilities seriously, as I do when I am on the court. Basketball has heightened my competitiveness and my drive to succeed, not only on the court but off the court as well.
As a student, I am near the top of my class, maintaining straight A’s while participating in basketball and our highest-level award-winning choir, both taking lots of time after school. This has helped me to learn how to organize my time to maximize meaningful participation, while continuing to excel in my studies.
As I look to the future, I want to pursue a degree in mathematics and computer science, but I am not ready to give up the game that has brought me so much joy. My desire and work ethic have brought me success as well as confidence and I am confident that I can be a key contributor to any basketball program.
