Personal Statement

I will graduate from Mandan High School in 2011. I have a 3.63 GPA and my favorite subject is science. My hobbies are drawing, painting and playing basketball in my free time. My friends think that I have a good sense of humor and am fun to be around. I was second team all-state as a junior and was voted most valuable athlete in girls' basketball at Mandan High School. I led the team in scoring with 480 points (19.2/game) which was 3rd in the state among Class A teams. I also led the team in rebounds, assists and steals. I had 149 steals this season which was 2nd in the state (and is a new Mandan High School record). I think that my biggest contribution to the team is taking the ball to the basket. I shot 277 free throws this year which is also a new school record. My coach offered 33 open gyms prior to the season and I attended all of them. I believe that practice is very important and I work extremely hard to improve my game both in the offseason & during the season. I am first in all the sprints that we do in practice and when coach blows the whistle I sprint to the next drill. I was appointed team captain by my coach because of my motivational and leadership qualities both on and off the court. I try to get everyone involved in the game. My coach offers a 'swoosh camp' for grades K-4 and I help coach the girls teaching them the fundamentals of the game. It doesn't matter to me where I go to school, as long as I can play basketball. I want to go where I can fit in well with the team & use my skills to help the team be successful. I have not decided what my major will be, but I'm leaning towards something in the sports medicine field.
