My name is Tariah Janai Johnson (I go by TJ),
Playing basketball has been my dream since I was 4 years old. My goal is to play college and professional basketball. I work hard to achieve my goals by doing additional strength and personal one-on-one training with basketball experts. During the summer, I participate in multiple basketball camps. This has increased my knowledge for the game tremendously and has allowed me to see different coaching perspectives. My academic history consist of A's and B's, however as a growing student I am currently working on time management; which has played an influencial factor throughout my highschool experience. I am interested in the studies of Criminal Law which I hope to persue as a potential career in college. Receiving a scholarship to play basketball; is not only is a wonderful opportunity, it ensures that my parents will not be financially in debt or struggling to pay for me to get an education.
I enjoy interaction with other people, so my days consistent of bettering myself and helping others do the same. For the past four summers, I've participated in a cancer support camp for kids impacted by a direct family member with cancer called "Camp Kesem". During the week, I mentor and reach out to younger kids that may be impacted or suffering from a parent's illness or death. I also speak at Fundraisers or events sponsored by the organization to ensure the stability of the organization as a whole. To earn high school service hours, I plan to volunteer at our local childcare facilities and work on some hours in the thrift store.
Everyday I attempt to leave a respectable impression on those who I interact with, therefore leaving my name with only good association. I registered for this program with the hopes that participating would allow more possibilities of me getting into college and exceling throughout high school and further into the future.
