Many people today have different motives and strive for different goals. Almost every individual has that one place in which they can come to peace of mind. The place for each person to complete their peace of mind varies. This place can vary from a classroom, gym, library, or place of any sort. One’s house or even an urban environment such as New York City could be a place for a person to get their mind set.
The place where I am perfectly comfortable is the gym. At the age of 9, I began playing organized basketball at St. Clares Academy (Positive Direction). This is where I first began to get used to the environment of being around many other basketball players of all levels. I remember walking onto the gym floors and looking at the basket. There was a feeling of achievement that came upon me and at the moment I realized that all my dreams were right in front of me, I wanted to master what I loved to do best. Noticing the strive and passion for the game that my teammates had in their eyes, made me feel the need to strive even more for success, not only in basketball but in many other things such as academics. They allowed me to develop a love for the game as well as the gym I constantly worked in and still enjoy working in till this day. The gym allows me to better my weakness, and strengthen my mind with certain decisions that I will decide to make. I never thought that out of all things, this would increase my interest in sports other than basketball, and allow me to free my mind, as it did and still does. Till this day when I practice, workout or even walk into the gym, I get the feeling of peace and calmness. I feel as if I can’t or don’t have this feeling anywhere else in this world. As if it is very one of a kind to me, which I’ve, grew to realize that it is. Till this day I still continue to work hard on and off the court when it comes to my books and basketball. I see success in my near future; hear the sounds of dribbling basketballs, whistles and hard breathing from working so hard. All I could think about is this process not being easy to achieve, it requires hard work and dedication, but that is what I will accomplish.
There are certain actions within the sport of basketball that I have learned to perfect. It has become a sport that I also learned to love. Throughout my years of playing this sport I have learned that hard work and dedication honestly pays off. There are places where any individual could find the activity that they will perfect, accomplish, and learn to love. I feel that there is a place for each and every individual.
