My name is Amanda Perea, but most refer to me as “Mandie”. I am seventeen years old and a senior at La Cueva High School, a 6A school located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am a Captain and the leading scorer on the girls’ varsity basketball team, and have played varsity since I was a sophomore. I love the sport of basketball and have played it for as long as I can remember.
Playing basketball for so long has taught me many things about myself, the world I live in and the world that awaits me. I have learned the importance of self-discipline and prioritizing my time which has helped me to balance sports with my studies earning a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.6. I have also learned the principles of sacrifice, humility, sportsmanship, respect and what it means to be part of a team and a team player. Now as team captain, I have had a wonderful opportunity to improve my leadership skills and strategic planning and continue to do so.
As a senior, I find myself looking beyond graduation into college. While many courses of study capture my interest, I am migrating towards a degree in Business and Financial Management. However, nothing excites me more than the thought of playing college basketball. With an opportunity to play at the college level, I would be able to apply the basketball skills and everything I have learned about the game of basketball over the years. It would also be a privilege to represent my college, contribute to a new team and continue to grow as a player, student and individual. I want to thank you for taking time to read my personal statement! Mandie
