The most important thing in my life has always been my family. My grandparents and my parents have always instilled in me the qualities, morals, and ideals that those who came before them have passed down to their descendants. My grandparents have not allowed a day to go by without reminding me that hard work and dedication are the cornerstone of success. Success not just in a career or profession, but in every aspect of life including matters of the family. They've reiterated day in and day out that I should be proud of my heritage and where I come from. My parents have also consistently allowed for opportunities for me to explore my interest, but also hold me accountable for any and all endeavors I undertake.
Due to their actions, I have dedicated myself to basketball and it has been my passion for as long as I can remember. Because of what they've taught me all my life, I can say that I play the sport with all my heart and with the passion that I don't even have to think twice to feel and to exhibit. I can't help it but give my all each and every time I'm on the court and I believe that even on a tough day, basketball is there to lift me up and even help me sort through my thoughts and feelings.
However, basketball isn't everything. I really do believe that. I believe it is a conduit for the most important lessons in life. I know that if I persevere, I will be successful in anything that I do. Whether it be at school, or in basketball, or even in exploring my own personal hobbies or leisure activities. And I know that I will work hard at whatever I put my mind to. One of the things my family has taught me that I am most proud of is the mantra they truly and deeply believe is at the core of what we stand for: that success is earned, never given.
