My name is Kathryn Theisen, known as Kate to my friends, families, and coaches. I am a senior at Watertown-Mayer High school in Minnesota. I have played basketball since I could walk and would love to play basketball in college as I further my education. I am looking for a school with a competitive atmosphere both on the court and in the classroom. I want a coach that motivates me to play my best and challenges me to be the best person I can be. I am known as a leader both on and off the court and hope to carry that trait into my college career. I reached the 1,000 point scoring mark in December '12 and while a good accomplishment, I just wanted to help my team win their games.
I had the opportunity to play with Marissa Janning, Ms. MN Basketball 2012 and All-conference Division 1 player at Creighton, for 3 of my varsity seasons. (This footage is in the unverified highlight reel of Sophomore and Junior highlights). We played a fast paced game and worked extremely well together. When Rissy was in foul trouble or on the bench, I was asked to step into her role and lead the team. In 2012 playoffs, my team ended up losing to eventual state champion Providence Academy by 3 points--a team which at the time had 3 Division 1 recruits and a roster where no athlete was below 5'10". It strengthened my resolve to play harder and work harder to help my team this year.
In January, I suffered an injury that has sidelined me for the rest of my high school season. The injury to my ACL is helping me become more disciplined as I rehab and is creating an even bigger desire to get back on the court to compete.I have been cleared to compete in the shot and discus in track for the rest of this spring season and I was cleared to begin running again and prepare for a college season with a coach who sees my ability and potential.
Since Jr. High, I have had it in my mind to earn a basketball scholarship to pay for my college education. I am a hard worker and love the game and respect any athlete who can handle both an athletic and academic career. I am looking for a college that I can be a proud member of the team and receive a fantastic education.
