Personal Statement

Basketball has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. It has taught me how to be a leader both on and off the court, and helped me develop the ability to thrive in tough situations by working together with my teammates. I love the competitive atmosphere that basketball creates, and the competition inspires me to work harder every day.  I've had the privilege of traveling to many showcase tournaments with my AAU team, the Mass Huskies, including the Deep South Classic and USJN where I was able to showcase my talent against the best competition.

As a Junior, I am a three year starting point guard on the WHS’ varsity team and have been selected as a Dual County League All Star freshman and sophomore year. This season I have been averaging 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals per game with a season high of 23 points .  Although scoring is always important, I take the most pride in my defensive abilities. I believe that how you play defense translates into what you can create on defense. In other words, defense wins games.  My coaches continually rely upon my defensive skills to guard the other team’s top player, knowing that I am always up for the task, and will do everything in my power to shut them down.

Aside from pushing myself on the court, I also like to push myself in the classroom. I take a mixture of Honors and College Prep Classes at WHS.  I currently have and estimated grade point average  of 3.5 and will take the SAT’s in April.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy music and volunteering; I was elected Vice President of my schools orchestra program,  as well as Co- President of SADD. I have also spent time organizing fundraisers and volunteering with Hope4Girls Africa  http://hope4girlsafrica.org/, an organization I am personally excited about.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
