My freshman year on the court was the highlight of my high school basketball career as my team won the county championship and I received MVP of the game. I am proud of being noted for doing much of the “dirty work,” battling down low against our opponent’s much taller players, collecting rebounds and scoring the go-ahead basket in overtime with a quick steal and layup. Our team may not be the most talented, but we are a smart team using whatever advantages we have to overcome our opponents and compete at the highest level. We can never be counted out, and neither can I. I have learned to overcome obstacles, become a more vocal leader and to be the best example of a good work ethic, always ready to put in the necessary work in to be successful. Preparation and dedication have been key to my success.
I am looking for a program that fits me both academically and athletically. My four best attributes on the court serve me well in life – toughness, high basketball IQ, good court vision and a team player. As a younger player, I was always the tallest and was known for my hard post play. Now being considered undersized, it makes me determined to always being the hardest working player on the court. I have heard the comparison of Wes Unseld, and I like that. What he lacked in size, he made up with “sheer determination and brute strength.” I am continually working to expand my game with improved outside shooting and increased speed.
My years of basketball and academic achievements have equipped me to be a leader on campus and on the court. You can be sure my good attitude, high aptitude and hard work will be an asset to your program.
