Personal Statement
My name is Raven Calloway. I am 5'6 my weight fluctuates around 130 and 135 pounds. I play in the jersey number 33 because two 3's are better than one. I am a hustler at heart and my favorite part of basketball is playing defense. I moved to another country right before my senior year started and I am the starting shooting guard and the captain of my new team. I was also the captain for my AAU season junior year. Four months ago I said, "I may not be the leading scorer or the superstar of my team, but I am the teammate that will work the hardest and when my team is in trouble I am the teammate that everyone goes to to get the defensive stops and get the game back to our advantage. I share the ball making sure the open person or best shooter gets to score because scoring isn't everything to me, it's just the overall component that people see as what wins the game." This year I have been running with that mentality and have been scoring, rebounding, and stealing the ball more than I ever have. I have turned into a confident player that has developed as an athlete and teammate. I continue to always push my teammates to do better because if nobody does they never will. I want to go to school in the southeastern region because most of my family is here and being a military brat, immediate family is not always close. I honestly am open to any college, but my dream is to go to a medium sized college the division at this moment is not my concern as long as I can go and they have journalism and creative writing as a major. My family is in need of financial aid for me to go to college. I have an older sister who is also attending college and younger brothers that are certain to follow our steps, so I am looking for scholarships and grants that will help me succeed in going to college without putting myself in debt. My athletic goals consist of playing ball as a freshman, bettering myself as a basketball player and a teammate, breaking my own records and showing all of those that doubted my ability that I could do it, that I did, and I am here and I am playing with the best because I am the best. I want to give my best and my all to a basketball team and reap the benefits of hard work. I have came from not knowing anything about basketball my freshman year in high school to knowing enough basketball, that I believe, with help from my coaches, God, and hard work on my part, will take me far not only on a college team, but in life.
