River Washington '10 Recruiting Profile

I grew up in East Point, GA for 16 years. It's a somewhat small city outside of Atlanta. This year as a senior I was chosen to be captain, and take my leadership role very seriously. I make it a priority to show the underclassmen particularly the freshman, how things are done not only on but, off the court as well. Throughout high school my team has always had star players, and I've somewhat been put on the back burner, but I've never been out worked. If practice starts at 4:00 I'm there at 3:55. When I was young I never envisioned being the person I am today. I have always been one to go above and beyond all expectations set before me. My Christian faith is a large factor in my daily life, it is my priority to make sure all my faith is put into everything I touch. My parents have worked countless hours and very hard for years to get to the place of stability that they are today. This statement drives me to do better then what they have done. As I begin my journey into adulthood, my perspective of life is changing rapidly. The school I primarily see myself attending is somewhere close to home in the southeast. I'm open to all types of schools, liberal arts, research, private, public all kinds, being such a well rounded person I'm open to anything.My intended major is engish, I love writing it is a passion of mine, and enhancing my english language skills will help me to become a better Lawyer, which is my long term goal. Everyday I find ask myself, where will I be in 5 years, will I be making my parents proud, is God happy with my work. Things like this are reminders that there are people praying and expecting greatness out of me, as well as me expecting great from myself. To say the least I have had God's favoring hand throughout my whole life, through his eyes I strive to be excellent. Not just a girl who dreams and never reaches her goals. When I was in elementary school, before I got out of the car my dad would always say, "Excuses are what?" I would answer, " excuses are tools of the incompetent," and being so young I never knew what that meant. I look up the word and found it means that you do not have things necessary. After learning this it came to me, since I was fortunate to receive the skills, I should channel them into something positive, because the sky is the limit.
